Mission of the Institute of Neurobiology SAS

Institute of Neurobiology SAS is the research institute for multidisciplinary study of the nervous system. The main field of our research consists of socially relevant diseases of the nervous system caused by insufficient blood supply (ischemia) and by direct insult (trauma), and their treatment using principles of regenerative medicine”.

The base of the research are model systems in vivo a in vitro, which serve for:

study of the mechanisms of nervous tissue degeneration;

searching for the new neuroproterctive approaches using endogenous mechanisms of nervous tissue recovery;

testing of the neurotransplantation techniques with the aim to stimulate regenerative capacity of the tissue and replacement of damaged cells;

searching for the suitable biocompatible materials for the support of regrowth   and regeneration of injured nervous tissue;

Institute of Neurobiology SAS collaborates with clinical institutions with application of obtained results to clinical practice. It is educational and training institution for under- and post-graduate university students.
